Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured above), after back-to-back defeats this past weekend against Brighton and Brentford, losing to the former 4-0. During their humiliating defeat on Saturday, it was clear that Manchester United Red Devils star, Cristiano Ronaldo, was unhappy with the way the team played, as you can tell by his body language in the photo.
According to Rob Dawson of ESPN https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/4722734/cristiano-ronaldo-man-united-future-club-adamant-no-7-will-stay-despite-attitude-concerns-sources, there have been reports that Manchester United coach, Erik ten Hag, is concerned about negative distractions in the locker room that can affect his team’s willingness to compete to win.
After the loss to Brentford, Ten Hag was so furious about his team’s performance that he canceled a scheduled day off for them and made them run 13.8 kilometers. He stated his frustration after the game, saying, “Conceding four goals in 35 minutes is garbage, it’s poor. I asked my players to play with belief and take responsibility, and that’s what they didn’t do.”
Ouch, that says something, especially from a team coming off just 16 wins (58 points) and a goal difference of zero last season, which was their worst season since they recorded 13 wins (48 points) with a -1 goal difference back in 1989-90, when they finished in 13th place. The Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League last season and lost 1-0 in round 16 to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
It is still very early in the 2022-23 season, as many teams have only played two matches up to this point. With the transfer deadline approaching on September 1, the Red Devils are looking to add a striker and versatile forward to their roster. Some potential targets include PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo and Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata. United also has La Liga Dutch midfielder, Frenkie De Jong, as a potential top target as well.
There’s been some rumblings that Manchester could terminate Ronaldo’s contract and transfer him elsewhere https://www.si.com/soccer/manchesterunited/transfers/erik-ten-hag-now-open-to-selling-cristiano-ronaldo . It’s not the first time Ronaldo has been frustrated with the club, but now at thirty-seven years old and not many more years left ahead of him, could the United legend finish his career elsewhere? It should be interesting to follow as the transfer deadline gets closer.
