Mahomes vs Brady: Can he catch the GOAT?

The Super Bowl MVP award is a very honorable role for an individual to take on for the Super Bowl. Since the first Super Bowl in 1967, the award has been given to many amazing players annually. The MVP award is typically given to a player that is passionate about the game, has outstanding performance and effort, and provides well-strategized teamwork.

The award is voted on by a panel of media members, considering the performance of players in providing a great impact for the team to succeed. Being voted - essentially speaking - the best player for the most important game of the year is an award not to be taken lightly and labels the player with a huge responsibility for the game.

Legendary quarterback Tom Brady has won the Super Bowl MVP 5 times (Super Bowls XXXVI, XXXVIII, XLIX, LI, LV). Throughout his football and Super Bowl performances, he has been a prime example of what to look for, in an MVP. Brady also won two more super bowl titles despite not being the MVP for those games. Brady has shown countless times what it takes to be awarded an MVP for the Super Bowl.

This 2023 Super Bowl MVP award was given to Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes is known for his strong work ethic, which is one of the reasons for his success in the NFL. He works hard to improve his skills and always expands his knowledge of the game, both on and off the field. Mahomes' work ethic is a combination of his dedication, discipline, and willingness to learn and improve. His work ethic has definitely paid off and has been proven in his performances.

Patrick Mahomes' outstanding performance in the Super Bowl in 2020, which led them the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl victory in 50 years was well deserved to be awarded the MVP. In Super Bowl LIV, the Chiefs faced the San Francisco 49ers. With the Chiefs trailing by 10 points, Mahomes led the team on two touchdown drives, throwing two touchdown passes to give the Chiefs a 31-20 victory.

Once again, Mahomes had another outstanding performance this recent Super Bowl 2023, which led the chiefs to another victory. Mahomes was in control of the gameplay after play, and with just two minutes left, he did not hold back and re-injured his ankle. In the second half of the game, the Chiefs made their four possessions count by totally scoring on each one.

This is a noteworthy event because it was the only time in Mahomes’ career that he led his team to score on each move in the second half of the game. And, of course, he accomplished this in the Super Bowl. Despite having an injured ankle, Mahomes played an exceptional game. He did this by going 13 out of 14 completions with a total of 126 yards and two touchdowns.

His ability to make plays under pressure and in critical situations was a key factor in the Chiefs' success.

The Chiefs drafted Mahomes in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and spent the season as a backup to veteran quarterback Alex Smith. The next year, Mahomes took over as starting quarterback. He threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns, leading the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game. Patrick Mahomes is the third-youngest player in NFL history to win the Super Bowl MVP award.

Tom Brady’s name will always be and remains legendary to the NFL, but Mahomes is already inching his way up to be a legend in the NFL too. Mahomes is already inching up in his career with 2 Super Bowl MVPs and wins at 27.

Mahomes has already accomplished many things that Brady never did in his NFL career. Mahomes was awarded the regular season MVP and the Super Bowl MVP in the same season, which Brady never did. In a five-year span as a starter for the Chiefs, he has won two Super Bowl MVPs and two regular-season MVPs in a five-year span, which, again, Brady did not do. Those are all impressive accomplishments for Mahomes.

Mahomes had a remarkable start to his NFL career and has already achieved things that few quarterbacks have ever accomplished. His ability to perform under pressure, make difficult throws, and lead his team to victories has been a contributing factor to his success. Brady better watch out for Mahomes. Mahomes' future in the NFL is looking bright, and the future might land him even more legendary accomplishments, outshining Brady.
