The New England Patriots have signed former All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $69 million with $26 million guaranteed, a league source confirmed to The Athletic. Diggs, 31, now joins a Patriots team amid a rebuild alongside their young cornerstone quarterback Drake Maye, who showed much promise last season despite the team's 4-13 record, good for last in the AFC East Division. He instantly bolsters their receiver position as they ranked 31st in passing touchdowns last season and 22nd in pass completions.
Diggs was one of the best wide receivers on the open market this season. His 2024-25 season with the Houston Texas was cut short due to an ACL injury he suffered on Oct. 27 in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts. He finished with just 496 receiving yards on 47 receptions with 64 targets– his first sub-1,000-yard receiving season since 2017.
Diggs is now on his third team in the last calendar year after being traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Texans last season. While with the Bills, with whom Diggs had four of his six consecutive 1000-yard receiving seasons, he became the only Bills receiver since 2000 to do so for four consecutive seasons. He was named to the Pro Bowl in those seasons from 2020-23.
Diggs should provide a veteran presence in the locker room, as the Patriots relied heavily on second-year wideouts DeMario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte and 30-year-old tight end Hunter Henry. A healthy Diggs should be Maye’s favorite target as the Patriots aim to return to competency.
