San Antonio Spurs agree to extension with All-Star De’Aaron Fox

NBA All-Star De'Aaron Fox signs with San Antonio.

San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox agreed to a four-year, $228 million extension, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. The deal removes any final-year player option and locks him into San Antonio through the 2029–30 season after his deadline trade from Sacramento.

This extension strengthens the Spurs’ young core of Fox, Stephon Castle, Victor Wembanyama, Devin Vassell, and No. 2 pick Dylan Harper. Fox and Harper now form a dynamic backcourt that should complement each other despite speculation about Fox’s future.

Fox and Wembanyama played only five games together last season. With a full year and training camp, the Spurs aim to become a Western Conference force and chase their first playoff berth since 2019.

Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games with San Antonio before undergoing season-ending surgery on March 18. Across 62 games with the Spurs and Kings, he averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds. He was one of three guards—along with Cade Cunningham and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander—to hit 23+, 6+, and 4.5+ while playing at least 60 games.

Fox is also one of four players—Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Nikola Jokic—with 10,000 points, 3,000 assists, and 700 steals since entering the league in 2017.
