Yankees Pitching Struggles Threaten October Contention

The Yankees pitching has struggled, letting winnable games slip away despite Aaron Judge powering the offense. Offseason acquisition Max Fried has been a bright spot. He boasts a 4-0 record with an impressive 1.42 ERA, providing much-needed stability at the top.
Outside of Fried, Carlos Rodon is still struggling, posting a 3-3 record. Beyond Fried and Rodon, other starters have lacked consistency. Luis Gil, Marcus Stroman, Jake Cousins, and Jonathan Loáisiga spent time on the injured list, forcing reliance on depth arms who have struggled.
Yankees Pitching Woes Complicate Matters.
The bullpen, once considered a strength, has become a liability. Devin Williams, acquired to serve as an elite closer, has struggled with command, velocity, and walks. His “Airbender” changeup has lost its effectiveness.
Luke Weaver now sets up for Williams, pitching in the sixth and seventh innings to get crucial outs, but even this strategy has not stabilized late-game performance. The Yankees urgently need consistent bullpen execution to contend deep into October.
Offense Remains Strong, But Pressure Mounts
Aaron Judge and the offense continue to produce at a high level, keeping the team competitive despite pitching struggles. The Yankees still have the firepower to compete through October.
Despite these struggles, the team remains hopeful. With the trade deadline approaching and injured pitchers recuperating, the addition of reinforcements could potentially improve the pitching staff. If the rotation and bullpen stabilize, the Yankees have enough firepower to challenge in the postseason and potentially bring another banner back to the Bronx.
The Bronx Bombers’ potential remains high. With a healthy pitching staff and consistent bullpen, they can contend for another banner, igniting fan excitement across New York.
